Medical Use and Dosage – mode of administration


HUMULUS LUPULUS is mainly used to treat many conditions such as insomnia, excitability and specifically for restlessness associated with nervous tension, headache and/or indigestion.
In dealing with uneasiness and difficulties in falling asleep, can be used herbal tea. The suggested dosage of herbal tea is 2 – 3 times daily or before bedtime, or 3g of powdered herbal substance 2 times daily after meals.
Liquid extract is indicated for improving general condition in mental stress, to aid sleep and for supporting mental relaxation. It can be taken 3 times daily.
Tincture is also indicated for the above health conditions and the suggested dosage is 1 - 2 ml up to 3 times daily.
Dry extract is also indicated for the above health conditions. The suggested dosage of dry extract is 1 coated tablet 2 -3 times daily and 1 hour before bedtime 1 – 2 coated tablets.

Combinations & Contraindications


In case of contraindication, it has been suggested that individuals suffering from depressive illness should not take hops, as the sedative effect may accentuate symptoms. The sedative action may potentiate the effects of existing sedative therapy and alcohol.
In case of sleeplessness, Humulus can be combined with Valeriana and Passiflora.
It is contraindicated to be used during pregnancy without medical surveillance.
