Medical Use and Dosage – mode of administration


PLANTAGO LANCEOLATA is used in order to strengthen the respiratory tract, as an expectorant. It is also used to treat many health problems such as catarrhs of the upper respiratory tract, oral and pharyngeal mucosa inflammatory changes. Furthermore, it is used for the relief of dry cough associated with colds of the respiratory tract.
In dealing with inflammation symptoms of mouth and throat, it can be used in herbal tea. The suggested dosage is 1 cup 2 – 3 times daily.
In dealing with symptoms in colds of the respiratory, it can be taken in syrup. The suggested dosage is 10 ml syrup 3 times daily.
In dealing with symptoms in colds of the respiratory tract and inflammations of oral and pharyngeal mucosa, it can be taken in dry extract. The suggested dosage is 1 tablet 3 – 4 times daily.
In dealing with catarrhs of the respiratory tract and inflammations of mouth or throat, it can be taken in expressed juice. The suggested dosage is 3 times daily.

Combinations & Contraindications


In dealing with inflammations of the mouth and throat Plantago can be combined with Thymi herba, Foeniculi fructus, Salviae folium, Primulae radix, Sambuci nigrae flos, Tiliae flos, Liquiritiae radix, Matricariae flos, Menthae piperitae herba, Althaeae radix, Rubi fruticosi folium, Lupuli flos, Serpylli herba, Salviae officinalis herba, Polygonii avicularis herba, Urticae herba, Farfarae folium, Verbasci flos, Cynosbati fructus sine semine, Gentianae radix, Pini montanae turioni, Menthae piperitae aetheroleum, Foeniculi aetheroleum and Anisi aetheroleum.
It is contraindicated to be used during pregnancy without medical surveillance.



Recognized Ethnobotanical use


Plantago is traditionally used in order to strengthen the respiratory tract, and to treat colds of the respiratory tract. Also, it is used as an expectorant in the respiratory tract.
